IT Infrastructure Engineer – TechOps (Manchester)

About the role

The TechOps Engineer will support and extend the internal systems and platforms that enable consultant services for our customers. This hands‑on position blends infrastructure, networking and Linux expertise, with a strong focus on automation and security. Travel to the Manchester data centre is required.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, patch, troubleshoot and document physical and virtual network, server and cloud environments.
• Monitor infrastructure health, diagnose incidents and resolve issues within SLA targets.
• Lead design and architectural development of new and existing IT solutions, collaborating with stakeholders worldwide.
• Mentor junior team members and share best‑practice knowledge.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a TechOps or Infrastructure Engineer role.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a global team.
• Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt quickly to solve problems.
• Strong security mindset with experience applying hardening techniques.

Required skills

• Linux administration (Ubuntu/Debian/RHEL).
• Automation using Ansible.
• Virtualisation platforms (VMWare, KVM, XEN, on‑prem cloud).
• Scripting languages (Bash, Python, PHP).
• Networking (switching, routing, firewalling, proxy, VPN).
• Enterprise monitoring and logging.
• Version control with Git.
• Containerisation (Docker, Docker‑Compose, Podman, LXC).
• Enterprise storage technologies (SAN, DAS, NAS, RAID, FDE, SED).
• Datacenter operations experience.
• Enterprise backup solutions (Veeam).
• Server hardware expertise (Dell, HP).
• System hardening and application security tooling.
• Windows Server and Active Directory knowledge.
