IT Infrastructure Manager – Hybrid (Birmingham)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure Manager to lead the design, delivery and ongoing support of our growing infrastructure estate. Based in Birmingham, the role is hybrid – three days in the office and two days remote – and offers the chance to shape the technology roadmap for a freight rail operation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the organisation’s Microsoft‑based infrastructure, ensuring high availability of critical services.
• Proactively monitor networks, servers, cloud platforms and security solutions to prevent incidents.
• Lead and deliver infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
• Act as technical lead for business change initiatives, coordinating with internal teams and third‑party suppliers.
• Develop and maintain clear technical documentation and the infrastructure roadmap.
• Support compliance with IT policies, governance and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Strong experience managing Microsoft infrastructure environments.
• Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Solid knowledge of LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi and SD‑WAN technologies.
• Proven track record of delivering infrastructure projects and supporting business change.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
