Learning Support Assistant

About the role

This full‑time, long‑term placement supports secondary‑aged pupils with SEND in a Birmingham school. You will work closely with teachers, the SENCo and pastoral teams to help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential throughout the academic year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to students with SEND.
• Assist pupils within lessons and in alternative learning environments.
• Help deliver structured and engaging lessons.
• Implement strategies to improve behaviour, engagement and learning.
• Support emotional regulation and transitions between lessons.
• Monitor progress and behaviour, giving feedback to staff as needed.
• Encourage independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Collaborate with staff to support individual learning plans.

Required profile

• Experience working with secondary‑aged pupils with SEND.
• Strong behaviour management and communication abilities.
• Calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
• Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
• Reliable and committed to a long‑term role.
• Proactive, adaptable and a strong team player.
