Legal Advisor – Government Legal Department (Grade 7)

About the role

The Government Legal Department is seeking qualified legal professionals to join its Grade 7 team in Leeds. You will work across a range of public‑sector matters, providing high‑profile advice to Ministers and senior officials.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and guidance to government departments on a variety of issues.
• Handle a caseload that may include litigation, advisory, commercial, employment and EU legislation matters.
• Draft and review legislation, policy documents and contractual arrangements.
• Collaborate with other legal professionals, ministers and departmental officials.
• Maintain high standards of risk‑based analysis and balanced decision‑making.

Required profile

• A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively about complex legal issues.
• Strong judgement, impartiality and the confidence to provide persuasive advice.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex matters clearly.
• Willingness to work collaboratively and at pace in a customer‑focused environment.
