About the role

DXC Technology is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join its Manchester team. The position is based on‑site five days a week and supports mission‑critical services for a platinum‑level client. You will work within multiple teams, applying analytical thinking and a detail‑oriented approach to improve system reliability and compliance.

Key responsibilities

Provide first‑ and second‑level technical support for incidents and problems.
Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth functionality.
Create, maintain and utilise documentation for systems and procedures.
Assist in building compliance with processes and policies.
Implement standards, policies and procedures for continual service improvement.

Required profile

Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
Experience working to ITIL best practices.
Strong desire to improve processes and identify root causes.
Willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
Proactive attitude toward risk identification.

Required skills

Proficiency with UNIX/Linux platforms (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX).
Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell) and automation (Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef).
Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers).
Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP).
Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS).
Performance tuning and monitoring tools (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat).
Scripting knowledge in Bash, Python and version control with Git.
Experience with AWS and virtualization/container technologies (KVM, VMware, Docker, Podman).
