Logistics Controller – Import & Export

About the role

Taiko, a leading UK food‑manufacturing company, is seeking a Logistics Controller to own all import and export processes and drive continuous improvement across its logistics and warehouse functions. The role ensures compliant movement of goods, optimises efficiency and reduces costs through data‑driven KPI management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end import and export operations, including documentation, customs compliance, freight forwarding and supplier liaison.
• Ensure shipments meet UK, EU and international trade regulations and food‑safety standards.
• Negotiate and maintain relationships with freight forwarders, hauliers and customs agents to achieve cost‑effective, timely deliveries.
• Monitor shipment progress, resolve delays and keep accurate tracking records.
• Oversee daily logistics flow from suppliers to production and from factory to customers.
• Collaborate with the warehouse team to improve space utilisation, stock accuracy and dispatch efficiency.
• Develop and track KPIs such as delivery accuracy, turnaround time, cost per shipment and inventory performance.
• Identify and implement process improvements, supporting seasonal peaks, new product launches and promotional campaigns.
• Lead continuous‑improvement initiatives, promoting a culture of accountability across logistics and warehouse teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in logistics, import/export or supply‑chain management, preferably within FMCG or food manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, Incoterms and customs clearance processes.
• Experience managing third‑party logistics providers and freight forwarders.
• Excellent problem‑solving, organisational and negotiation abilities.
• Leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP/WMS systems.
• Advanced Excel for data analysis.
• Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
