Mechanical Design Engineer (12‑month contract)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a precision manufacturing business in Birmingham. The role is an initial 12‑month fixed‑term contract, working within the Engineering Team to maintain and develop our high‑value, low‑volume product range for the naval‑marine sector.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret customer specifications and develop compliant mechanical solutions.
• Apply appropriate valve technologies and relevant design codes (BS, ISO, DN, PD, etc.).
• Create and maintain technical documentation, design calculations and traceability records.
• Develop validation and test programmes for prototypes and produce project reports.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, liaise with customers, suppliers and development technicians.
• Lead small project teams and support production‑related engineering issues.
• Produce and update 2D/3D designs and drawings using SolidWorks and DraftSight.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering.
• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Proven ability to create and maintain accurate engineering records and calculations.
• Experience in valve design, hydraulic systems, and work within oil & gas or naval‑marine environments.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
