Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Filtronic is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to provide end‑to‑end mechanical engineering support for high‑frequency RF systems, modules and amplifiers, from concept through to volume production. The role focuses on delivering mechanically robust, lightweight and thermally efficient assemblies for demanding industrial, aerospace and space‑related applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design precision mechanical components and assemblies for RF modules, including enclosures, heatsinks, liquid‑cooling solutions and waveguide architectures.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks and select appropriate materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
• Perform thermal analysis (CFD, conjugate heat transfer) and structural analysis (FEA) to validate cooling strategies and assess vibration, shock and fatigue loads.
• Collaborate with RF, electronics and systems engineers to optimise mechanical features that affect RF performance, such as cavity geometry, surface finish and tolerances.
• Support manufacturing by ensuring designs meet reliability, quality, cost and manufacturability requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design of high‑frequency RF products or similar high‑reliability hardware.
• Strong understanding of thermal management, structural dynamics and material properties for aerospace/space environments.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and translate system requirements into mechanical solutions.
