Mechanical Design Engineer – RF & Microwave

About the role

Filtronic is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team and develop high‑frequency RF and microwave products from concept through to volume production. The role focuses on delivering mechanically robust, lightweight and thermally efficient assemblies for demanding industrial, aerospace, defence and space applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design precision mechanical components and assemblies for RF modules, including enclosures, heatsinks, liquid‑cooling solutions and waveguide architectures.
• Develop modular mechanical architectures that meet mass, volume, mounting and serviceability requirements for payload and system‑level integration.
• Perform thermal analysis and CFD simulations to validate cooling strategies for high‑power RF amplifiers.
• Conduct structural and dynamic analysis using FEA to assess vibration, shock, fatigue and other load cases.
• Collaborate with RF, electronics and systems engineers to optimise mechanical features that impact RF performance, such as cavity geometry, surface finish and material selection.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks and select appropriate materials, finishes and manufacturing processes.
• Validate simulation models through physical testing and correlate results with measured data.
