Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Barker Associates is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its multidisciplinary team, working on a diverse portfolio of building projects across the UK. The position can be based in either Braintree or Birmingham and may offer hybrid working depending on business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering solutions from concept through to completion.
• Carry out condition and technical surveys of existing buildings and produce clear reports.
• Prepare mechanical calculations, designs, drawings, and specifications.
• Produce documentation for tender stages and assist in tender evaluations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure coordinated design delivery.

Required profile

• Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Relevant industry experience in building services/mechanical design.
• Working towards or desire to achieve professional accreditation (e.g., CIBSE, IMechE).
• Full clean driving licence with access to a vehicle.
• Subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Familiarity with BIM/Revit.
• Experience with IES software.
