Pastoral Lead – Welfare Office (Full‑Time)

About the role
This full‑time position provides pastoral and emotional support to pupils in a Birmingham school. You will build trusting relationships, help improve attendance and wellbeing, and work closely with teaching and safeguarding teams.
Key responsibilities
- Provide pastoral and emotional support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Support pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and high‑needs cases.
- Assist pupils who have experienced trauma, including Looked‑After Children and those with SEMH needs.
- De‑escalate behaviours arising from emotional distress using positive behaviour strategies.
- Supervise corridors and communal areas to ensure pupil safety.
- Deliver one‑to‑one wellbeing sessions and respond to support requests from pupils or their families.
- Conduct home welfare visits to support attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, SEND teams, safeguarding leads and external professionals.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people in education, mental health, counselling, youth work, or as a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and adverse childhood experiences.
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs, SEMH or additional learning needs.
- Calm, professional demeanor in challenging situations.
- Proactive, resilient and compassionate approach.
- Full UK driving licence and reliable vehicle for home visits.
- Team Teach training is desirable but not essential.
