Principal AI Engineer – AI Consultant

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Principal AI Engineer to support the design and adoption of Agentic AI‑based solutions with its partners and customers. The role is highly architecture‑focused, partner‑facing, and combines deep systems thinking with practical AI knowledge.

Key responsibilities

• Engage directly with partners and customers to understand system architectures, integration patterns, and data environments; lead technical discovery sessions.
• Design end‑to‑end architectures for Agentic AI systems, covering agent orchestration, data flows, model integration, APIs, and security boundaries.
• Convert business and technical requirements into solution blueprints, reference designs, and implementation guidance.
• Advise on data readiness, AI model integration, and patterns such as retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), tool‑using agents, and human‑in‑the‑loop workflows.
• Apply Responsible AI principles, defining guardrails, data governance, security, safety controls, and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and platform teams to align partner needs with product road‑maps and support pilots or proofs of concept.
• Create architecture diagrams, documentation, and presentations to explain technical trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Stay current on emerging Agentic AI tools, frameworks, and architectural patterns and guide partners on practical adoption.

Required profile

• Strong systems thinking and deep technical expertise in AI solution design.
• Experience working directly with external partners and customers in a consulting capacity.
• Knowledge of cloud, hybrid, and on‑prem deployment environments.
• Familiarity with Responsible AI principles and risk mitigation strategies.
• Ability to translate complex requirements into clear architectural blueprints.
