Regional Research Economist – AI Economic Impact

About the role

As a Regional Research Economist at Anthropic you will collaborate with governments, academia, industry and civil society to measure AI’s economic effects, develop the Anthropic Economic Index for your region and translate insights into policy‑relevant recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, policy think tanks and other research partners in the region.
• Advance research collaborations that answer country‑ or region‑specific economic impact questions.
• Translate research insights into actionable policy recommendations.
• Contribute to the development and expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index with regional analysis.
• Design and conduct empirical studies on AI’s effects on labor markets, productivity, inequality and industry disruption.
• Work cross‑functionally with technical teams to improve measurement infrastructure and data collection.

Required profile

• PhD in Economics with a strong track record of empirical research.
• Demonstrated experience working with regional stakeholders and conducting policy‑relevant economic research on AI’s impact.
• Proven ability to lead complex research projects from conception to publication and to communicate findings to diverse audiences.
• Strong interest in ensuring AI development benefits humanity and comfort working with AI systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python for large‑scale data analysis.
• Proficiency in R for statistical modelling.
• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
