Reliability Engineer

About the role

The Reliability Engineer will improve the reliability, availability and performance of critical assets at a leading food‑based packaging manufacturer in Preston. This is a system‑improvement role focused on reducing unplanned downtime and boosting Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) rather than reactive maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Drive asset reliability and performance across the site.
• Lead root‑cause analysis and loss elimination initiatives.
• Develop and maintain maintenance strategy, standards and predictive/condition‑based programmes.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure sustainable asset design and operation.
• Report on reliability metrics and governance.
• Achieve reductions in unplanned downtime, repeat failures and emergency call‑outs.
• Increase the proportion of planned versus reactive maintenance work.

Required profile

• Experience in reliability engineering within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to work across engineering and operations to implement long‑term solutions.
• Proven track record of reducing downtime and improving OEE.
