Senior Java Developer (eSC/eDV)

About the role

IBM Consulting UK FutureNow is looking for a Senior Java Developer to support public sector and defence clients. You will design, build and maintain high‑quality Java/JEE applications while working with modern web technologies and cloud‑native practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java/JEE applications and web components using frameworks such as Spring.
• Apply enterprise development practices including dependency injection, inversion of control, aspect‑oriented programming, functional programming and test‑driven development.
• Implement secure and efficient data access with appropriate frameworks and transaction management.
• Integrate solutions with existing enterprise and legacy systems common in public sector and defence environments.
• Participate in DevOps processes: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and version control.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues to ensure reliability and service quality.
• Collaborate with analysts, testers, architects and fellow developers; provide technical coordination or mentoring as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
• Proven experience developing applications with Java and JEE technologies.
• Strong knowledge of Java frameworks such as Spring.
• Understanding of web technologies including JSP and Servlets.
• Familiarity with dependency injection, inversion of control and aspect‑oriented programming.
