Sensory Support Assistant – Primary (Waterlooville)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking a calm, patient and resilient Sensory Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEN primary school in Waterlooville. The role involves providing tailored sensory support to pupils with autism, sensory processing differences and other additional needs across EYFS and primary ages.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailored sensory support to pupils with autism, sensory processing needs, learning disabilities or communication difficulties.
• Support children experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, sensory overload or challenges with transitions and routines.
• Encourage engagement through sensory‑based, play‑led, creative and therapeutic activities.
• Promote emotional wellbeing, safety and positive behaviour throughout the school day.
• Assist pupils with communication, emotional regulation, social interaction and developing independence.
• Build trusting relationships using calm, clear and consistent communication.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to ensure holistic, child‑centred support.

Required profile

• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain).
• Professional references covering the last 24 months.
• Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, education or health & social care, or relevant SEN experience.
