Software Developer – Distributed Scheduling & Workload Orchestration

About the role

Viridien is looking for a Software Developer to design, build, and enhance systems that handle job scheduling, resource allocation, and workload orchestration across distributed environments. You will work on scalable, reliable services that coordinate compute workloads on clusters.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop job scheduling and workload orchestration systems.
• Integrate and extend scheduling capabilities using tools such as Slurm.
• Manage job lifecycles, resource allocation, and execution workflows.
• Design and implement APIs and backend services supporting the scheduling platform.
• Use PostgreSQL to store system state and coordinate resources.
• Analyse performance, improve scalability and reliability, and ensure efficient resource utilisation.
• Participate in system architecture discussions and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.

Required profile

• Strong software development experience.
• Proven experience building backend services or distributed systems.
• Experience with job scheduling, orchestration or resource‑management concepts.
• Solid understanding of distributed‑system principles such as coordination, consistency and fault tolerance.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL.
• Experience designing APIs and backend services.
• Familiarity with containerised environments and micro‑service architectures.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
