Software Developer – Hybrid (Croydon/Manchester/Sheffield)

About the role

The Home Office is seeking a Software Developer to join a hybrid team based in Croydon, Manchester or Sheffield. You will contribute to the design, development and improvement of software components that support public services, working under the guidance of senior engineers and adhering to strict security standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and Python.
• Develop responsive front‑end features with React, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Integrate and manage data in Elasticsearch, MongoDB and Neo4j.
• Write clean, secure, test‑driven code and ensure high code quality through unit, integration and BDD/TDD testing.
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git) and DevOps practices on AWS, Kubernetes and Docker.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, troubleshoot production issues and contribute to technical documentation.

Required profile

• Demonstrable passion for software development and ability to work under senior guidance.
• Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance, requiring five years of UK residency.
• Commitment to continuous learning of new technologies.
