Specialty Doctor – Resident Medical Officer (12‑day shift)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Specialty Doctor (Resident Medical Officer) to join the medical team at Castle Craig Hospital, a leading addiction‑treatment centre in the Scottish Borders. The post works on a 14‑day on‑site, 14‑day off rotation, providing high‑quality care to in‑patients undergoing detoxification and supporting their mental and physical health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct initial medical assessments of new admissions and perform ongoing reviews of in‑patients.
• Deliver routine medical management of detoxification under consultant supervision, escalating complex cases when required.
• Monitor physical and mental health, manage intercurrent illness and medical emergencies.
• Provide resident medical cover, on‑call duties and emergency care during shift periods.
• Contribute to discharge planning, prescribe medication and arrange follow‑up care.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, GPs and referrers.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Experience as a Specialty Doctor, Resident Medical Officer or in a comparable role.
• Competence in routine detoxification and acute medical issue management.
• Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
• Strong communication skills and a patient‑centred approach.
