Tax Investigations Assistant Manager

About the role

This is a specialist position within a top‑50 UK accountancy firm, focusing exclusively on tax investigations and disputes. You will work on a varied caseload of complex HMRC matters, collaborating closely with senior managers and directors while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Managing HMRC enquiries and investigations, including COP8 & COP9 cases.
• Handling Contractual Disclosure Facility cases and voluntary disclosures.
• Negotiating tax settlements and agreements with HMRC.
• Reviewing client affairs to identify potential tax exposures.
• Preparing detailed responses to HMRC enquiries.
• Supporting complex, high‑value investigations from start to finish.
• Building and maintaining client relationships throughout the investigation process.

Required profile

• Solid background in tax investigations or tax disputes, ready to progress to the next level.
• Current experience as an Assistant Manager, Senior Tax Consultant, or equivalent HMRC investigations role.
• Demonstrated experience with COP8, COP9, HMRC enquiries, disclosures or settlement negotiations.
• Experience gained in a Big 4, Top 20/50, or specialist investigations practice is valued.
