Engineering Manager – Infrastructure & Nuclear Projects

About the role

Our client, a leading Tier 1 infrastructure and engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead engineering assurance, design management and technical governance for complex infrastructure and nuclear‑sector projects in Workington.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering function for the sector/region, ensuring technical excellence across design, construction, commissioning and hand‑over.
• Act as CDM Principal Designer and guarantee statutory compliance.
• Support feasibility studies, option selection and hazard/risk reduction activities.
• Drive innovation, value engineering and alternative engineering solutions.
• Provide technical support for bids, tenders and client submissions.
• Develop and mentor Design Managers and wider engineering teams.
• Align engineering processes with client requirements, latest standards and best practice.
• Promote continuous improvement, lessons learned and engineering excellence.
• Assist recruitment, mentoring and professional development of engineers.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and external stakeholders.
• Deputise for the Project Manager when required.

Required profile

• Degree qualification in a relevant infrastructure engineering discipline.
• Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent professional accreditation).
• Significant experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor environment.
• Strong background in design management, engineering governance and project delivery.
• Experience in highly regulated sectors such as nuclear, infrastructure or major projects.
• Knowledge of CDM Principal Designer duties and NEC contracts.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
