Engineering Manager – Infrastructure & Nuclear Projects

About the role
Our client, a leading Tier 1 infrastructure and engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead engineering assurance, design management and technical governance for complex infrastructure and nuclear‑sector projects in Workington.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the engineering function for the sector/region, ensuring technical excellence across design, construction, commissioning and hand‑over.
- Act as CDM Principal Designer and guarantee statutory compliance.
- Support feasibility studies, option selection and hazard/risk reduction activities.
- Drive innovation, value engineering and alternative engineering solutions.
- Provide technical support for bids, tenders and client submissions.
- Develop and mentor Design Managers and wider engineering teams.
- Align engineering processes with client requirements, latest standards and best practice.
- Promote continuous improvement, lessons learned and engineering excellence.
- Assist recruitment, mentoring and professional development of engineers.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and external stakeholders.
- Deputise for the Project Manager when required.
Required profile
- Degree qualification in a relevant infrastructure engineering discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent professional accreditation).
- Significant experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor environment.
- Strong background in design management, engineering governance and project delivery.
- Experience in highly regulated sectors such as nuclear, infrastructure or major projects.
- Knowledge of CDM Principal Designer duties and NEC contracts.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
