Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Assystem is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit in Sunderland. The role involves supporting the development and delivery of work packages for nuclear, marine and oil & gas clients, with a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage project tasks for a team of engineers, coordinating with project management.
• Develop high-quality engineering solutions across a wide range of topics.
• Provide technical progress updates to the Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
• Mentor junior and graduate engineers, offering technical guidance.
• Manage time effectively to meet deadlines, cost targets and quality standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Relevant senior engineering experience in offshore, renewables, nuclear or other highly regulated sectors.
• Strong background in mechanical and structural engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or CATIA.
• Experience with MathCAD for complex calculations.
• Ability to produce technical design and substantiation reports.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding and machining.
• Familiarity with European and offshore standards (Eurocode 3, DNV).
• Master’s degree is a plus.
• Eligibility to meet UK security requirements.
