About the role
Are you a graduate or experienced professional looking to build a career supporting the wellbeing, personal development and pastoral needs of young people? We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Pastoral Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Brent on a long‑term, full‑time basis, with the potential to become permanent.
Key responsibilities
- Provide pastoral support to students across KS3 and KS4.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Support students with their wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group mentoring and support.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning and engagement.
- Support students with attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
- Encourage confidence, independence, resilience and positive decision‑making.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SEN staff and families where appropriate.
- Identify concerns and communicate them to the appropriate members of staff.
- Help create a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment.
Required profile
- Positive, approachable, patient and empathetic.
- Ideally educated to degree level and/or experienced working with teenagers.
- Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, tutoring, SEN or pastoral support is desirable.
- Experience supporting students with additional needs such as ADHD, Autism, dyslexia or SEMH is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to build positive relationships and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Passionate about supporting the wellbeing and development of young people.
- Calm, resilient and confident when dealing with challenging situations.
