Registered Nurse – Birth Unit

About the role

The Birth Unit at IWK Health is seeking a full‑time Registered Nurse to provide family‑centered care to intrapartum clients, newborns and their families. This temporary, long‑term assignment runs until May 2027 and offers the opportunity to work in a respected academic health‑science centre serving patients across Atlantic Canada.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver evidence‑based nursing care to mothers in labour and their newborns.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care.
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record.
• Educate families on newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
• Participate in quality‑improvement initiatives and uphold the unit’s anti‑racist and inclusive policies.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Nova Scotia.
• Experience in intrapartum and newborn nursing preferred.
• Commitment to family‑centered, culturally safe care.
• Ability to work a 100 % full‑time schedule for the duration of the assignment.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and monitoring of labouring mothers and newborns.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
• Knowledge of current obstetric and neonatal best practices.
