Component Design Engineer – Hybrid (Bristol)

About the role

Rolls‑Royce is seeking a Component Design Engineer to join its Bristol team. Working in a hybrid model (minimum three days on‑site), you will design components and complex assemblies for next‑generation gas turbine sub‑systems, supporting both new development and in‑service products.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver design solutions for components and assemblies, considering safety, manufacturability and functional robustness.
• Evaluate in‑service performance of existing products to improve reliability.
• Provide design definitions to manufacturing, project customers and analysis teams using conventional and Model‑Based Definition approaches.
• Develop tools, methods, standards and best‑practice guidance for sub‑systems and components.
• Capture lessons learned and contribute to product safety through XFMEA and risk processes.
• Perform formula‑based calculations and automated workflow analyses for dimensioning, stability, stiffness, balance point and weight.
• Manage work within an agile framework, prioritize tasks and contribute to multidisciplinary planning.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety, integrity and simplicity.
• Master’s degree in Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience.
• Chartered Engineer registration (or working towards it) is desirable.

Required skills

• Model‑Based Definition (MBD) and Model‑Based Environment (MBE) proficiency.
• Experience with XFMEA and risk analysis methodologies.
• Ability to conduct formula‑based calculations and use automated workflow tools for component analysis.
• Knowledge of stability, stiffness, balance point and weight assessment techniques.
