Director of Governance

About the role

The R&A is looking for an internationally‑minded senior leader to direct its global governance portfolio. The role will shape how golf is governed worldwide, protecting the sport’s integrity while driving evolution for future generations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Global Golf Alliance governance agenda, covering rules of golf, handicapping, equipment standards, amateur rankings and status.
• Drive delivery of strategic objectives within the ‘Unite’ pillar, ensuring near‑term priorities stay on track.
• Expand governance leadership into new and alternative formats of golf.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with the USGA, national federations, PGAs, professional tours and other governing bodies.
• Collaborate with the Chief Global Golf Alliance Officer, Governance Committee Chairs and the Board of R&A Rules Ltd to align global initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in sport governance or a related field.
• Strong international influence and ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering large‑scale initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to represent The R&A as a credible voice.
