Domestic Porter – Hospital Support

About the role

We are seeking two Domestic Assistants/Porters to join the General Service Department at Hawick Hospital. Working across clinics and departments on a fixed‑term basis, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform domestic cleaning activities throughout the hospital, including patient areas, corridors, and communal spaces.
• Support the smooth operation of clinics and departments by ensuring cleanliness standards are met.
• Adhere to the NHS Borders Behavioural Framework and hospital policies.
• Work flexible shifts, Monday to Sunday, covering various hours as required.

Required profile

• Demonstrated competence in domestic cleaning and hygiene practices.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts and adapt to changing demands.
• Understanding of NHS values: care, compassion, quality, teamwork, dignity, respect, openness, honesty, and responsibility.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and willingness to undergo required background checks, including potential PVG registration.

Required skills

• Knowledge of domestic cleaning procedures and equipment.
• Familiarity with NHS behavioural and safety frameworks.
