Graduate Planning Validation Officer

About the role

Our client is seeking a Graduate Planning Validation Officer to join a busy planning department in Barking & Dagenham. This full‑time graduate role is ideal for a recent graduate who enjoys organising documents, checking details and supporting planning and development projects.

Key responsibilities

• Validate planning applications to ensure completeness and accuracy before they progress.
• Maintain and update planning records and databases with precision.
• Manage the planning inbox, responding to emails in a timely manner.
• Assist with the administration of planning appeals, payments and refunds.
• Provide administrative support for street naming, numbering and liaise with planning officers, building control, developers and architects.

Required profile

• Recent graduate with a degree in Geography, Urban Planning or Environmental Science.
• Proactive, reliable and able to deliver high‑quality work on time.
• Strong organisational skills and a keen eye for detail.
• Excellent written communication and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Interest in pursuing further study, such as a master’s degree, alongside work.

Required skills

• Attention to detail when reviewing documents and records.
• Ability to manage multiple administrative tasks simultaneously.
• Basic proficiency with office software for record keeping and email handling.

What we offer

• Salary range £26,000 – £30,000 per year.
• 30 days of annual leave.
• Hybrid working model (2 days in the office, 3 days remote).
• Full‑time 35‑hour week.
