Health and Safety Officer

About the role

The Health and Safety Officer will support our client’s office, site and fabrication teams across the Midlands, ensuring safe practices and environmental compliance. Based in Birmingham, the role combines office work with site visits to promote a healthy work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide HSE advice and support to managers, supervisors and colleagues.
• Create and maintain safe systems of work, including RAMS, and ensure their application.
• Conduct HSE inspections of sites, workshops and equipment, keeping accurate records.
• Investigate incidents, identify improvement measures and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and attend relevant meetings.
• Plan, review and record emergency preparedness across all locations.
• Represent the department professionally and maintain high standards of work.

Required profile

• General NEBOSH certificate (minimum).
• At least 3 years of proven HSE experience, preferably in new‑build and M&E construction.
• Experience conducting health and safety audits and creating RAMS for complex works.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and technical standards.
• Experience in accident and incident investigation.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, influence change and challenge non‑compliance.
