Healthcare Planning & Design Architect

About the role

UBT is seeking a Healthcare Planning & Design Architect to lead the creation of high‑performing healthcare environments across the UK. You will work at the intersection of strategy, clinical insight and architectural delivery, turning ambitious visions into practical, patient‑centred spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, strategic assessments and option appraisals for new healthcare sites.
• Evaluate site constraints, development options and phasing strategies to support informed client decisions.
• Translate clinical and service requirements into practical design solutions, including concept designs, block plans, stack diagrams and zoning strategies.
• Analyse patient, staff and operational flows to define departmental relationships and functional requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams – architects, engineers, cost consultants and specialist advisors – ensuring design quality, commercial viability and regulatory compliance.
• Act as the primary interface between clients and external consultants, reviewing and challenging design proposals throughout the delivery process.

Required profile

• Proven experience in healthcare architecture and planning, with a track record of delivering complex projects.
• Ability to work closely with clinicians, estates teams and senior stakeholders as a trusted advisor.
• Strong analytical skills to assess site opportunities, develop strategic options and optimise operational performance.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills to guide multidisciplinary teams.
