Maintenance Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Maintenance Engineer to join an established food manufacturing site in Birmingham. You will be responsible for keeping production machinery and plant facilities running smoothly, reacting quickly to breakdowns and carrying out planned preventative maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to machinery breakdowns, diagnose root causes and implement effective repairs.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance.
• Support production teams to minimise downtime and maintain line output.
• Record all maintenance activities accurately in the relevant systems.
• Escalate major faults when necessary and contribute to continuous‑improvement projects.
• Follow GMP, food safety, quality and health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in an organised condition.

Required profile

• Previous hands‑on maintenance or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Electrical or mechanical engineering qualifications, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced production setting.
• Good communication skills and attention to detail.

Required skills

• PLC programming or troubleshooting
• Use of maintenance management systems
