Medical Reviewer – Senior Clinical Governance Role

About the role
The Medical Reviewer provides independent, expert review of death certification across Scotland, ensuring accuracy, improving public health data, and strengthening clinical governance. Working from home with occasional travel, you will support certifying doctors and contribute to national health improvement strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct timely, consistent reviews of Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCD).
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of healthcare stakeholders.
- Provide education and support to certifying doctors throughout Scotland.
- Contribute to Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Clinical Engagement Strategy.
- Participate in an on‑call rota (approximately 1 in 9).
Required profile
- Registered medical practitioner licensed by the General Medical Council.
- Extensive senior‑level clinical experience with direct knowledge of death certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Evidence of supporting professional development of others.
Required skills
- Knowledge of death certification processes and regulations.
