Obstetric Anaesthetic Clinical Fellow

About the role

The Obstetric Anaesthetic Clinical Fellow provides analgesia and anaesthesia for labour, delivery and post‑natal care within the maternity service at Wexham Park Hospital. The role involves managing epidural and combined spinal‑epidural techniques, supporting emergency caesarean sections and overseeing post‑operative pain relief.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver labour analgesia, including epidural and combined spinal‑epidural placement.
• Initiate and maintain morphine or remifentanil patient‑controlled analgesia when required.
• Provide anaesthesia for emergency caesarean sections (categories 1‑3) and other operative deliveries.
• Perform post‑natal procedures such as manual placenta removal and perineal tear repair under anaesthesia.
• Conduct post‑natal follow‑up of patients who received anaesthetic interventions and document reviews in EPIC.

Required profile

• Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC.
• Full registration and licence to practise with the GMC.
• Primary FRCA or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum three years of anaesthetic practice, including obstetric experience.

Required skills

• Epidural and combined spinal‑epidural techniques.
• Morphine and remifentanil patient‑controlled analgesia.
• Anaesthesia for emergency caesarean sections and operative deliveries.
• Use of the EPIC electronic patient record system.
