Quantity Surveyor – Civils

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Quantity Surveyor to join a leading civil engineering contractor in Birmingham. The role involves managing project costs, value engineering and contractual relationships from mobilisation through to final account settlement.

Key responsibilities

• Procure specialist trades and advise on subcontractor appointments
• Draft and manage subcontract agreements and valuations
• Review design developments and assess cost implications
• Identify value‑engineering opportunities
• Prepare and agree monthly valuations with the Employer’s Representative
• Participate in internal cost reporting and forecasting
• Support final account preparation and provide contractual advice
• Build strong relationships across the wider project team

Required profile

• Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering
• Sound working knowledge of NEC contracts
• Strong commercial awareness, analytical ability and attention to detail
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
• Proactive, career‑driven mindset with ambition to progress to Senior Quantity Surveyor
• Full UK driving licence
