SEN Pastoral Support Officer – Birmingham

About the role
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and proactive SEN Pastoral Support Officer to join our team in Birmingham. The role provides emotional, behavioural and social support to pupils with Special Educational Needs, helping them thrive academically and personally.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver 1‑to‑1 and small‑group pastoral support for pupils with SEN.
- Support students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Build trusting relationships to encourage engagement and confidence.
- Assist in managing behaviour and implementing personalised support plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO and safeguarding teams.
- Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals as required.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
- Support attendance, wellbeing and emotional regulation strategies.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, SEMH).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Calm, empathetic and patient approach.
- Ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Relevant qualifications such as Teaching Assistant, Youth Work or Psychology are desirable.
