Senior Cable Design Engineer (HV/EHV) – Remote/Hybrid

About the role

ARCA Resourcing Ltd is seeking a Senior Cable Design Engineer to lead HV/EHV underground cable system design for transmission and distribution projects. The role is remote/hybrid with occasional site travel, offering the chance to influence design standards and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver HV/EHV cable system designs (33kV–400kV) including sizing, selection, and configuration.
• Produce detailed design packages: drawings, layouts, specifications, and define cable routes and installation methods.
• Perform and review calculations such as ampacity (CYMCAP), thermal modelling, short‑circuit ratings, sheath bonding and induced voltage.
• Assess losses, EMF, and overall system performance to ensure safety and reliability.
• Develop installation methodologies, evaluate pulling tensions, sidewall bearing pressures, and specify trenching, ducting, HDD or tunnelling requirements.
• Define survey requirements, interpret topographical, PAS128, GI and environmental data, and integrate it into design outputs.
• Ensure compliance with National Grid, DNO, IEC and BS standards and support technical assurance, design reviews and CDM compliance.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in HV/EHV cable design for transmission and distribution projects.
• Proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and communicate with clients and stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of commercial and programme constraints.
