5T Excavator Operator – Groundwork & Drainage

About the role

We are seeking an experienced 5‑ton excavator operator to join our groundwork and external works teams on projects in Hendon. The role involves operating a 5T excavator for foundations, drainage, kerbing and related tasks while upholding safety and plant‑care standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a 5T excavator for groundwork, drainage and external works activities.
• Excavate footings, shallow drainage, ducting, foundations, kerbing, edging, slabs and associated packages.
• Work safely around live services (electric, gas, water, telecoms) using safe digging practices.
• Maintain safe working areas, conduct daily pre‑start inspections and basic machine maintenance.
• Support groundwork gangs, supervisors and site teams to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
• Excavate, grade, trim, backfill and maintain levels to drawings and site specifications.
• Assist with external works, paving, kerbing and finishing activities.

Required profile

• CPCS / NPORS (CSCS‑affiliated) 360 Excavator licence for machines below 10 t.
• Proven experience operating 5T excavators on groundwork and drainage projects.
• Experience working around live services and in confined excavation environments.
• Good understanding of safe excavation practices and site safety procedures.
• Safety‑critical medical clearance (site specific).
• Reliable, punctual, safety‑conscious and right to work in the UK.

• 360 Excavator operation (≤10 t)
• Forward Tipping Dumper operation
• Ride‑On Roller operation
• EUSR / Cat & Genny qualifications
• Confined Spaces training
