Accounts Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an organised and detail‑focused Accounts Assistant to join our finance team in Colchester. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support day‑to‑day financial operations, ensuring accurate processing of transactions and meeting key deadlines. This role is ideal for candidates with strong transactional finance experience who are studying towards an accounting qualification or looking to advance their finance career.

Key responsibilities

• Process and code supplier invoices, resolve queries, reconcile statements and manage timely payments.
• Handle banking transactions, perform bank reconciliations and monitor funding receipts.
• Raise customer invoices, maintain account records and assist with debt recovery.
• Support month‑end processes, balance‑sheet reconciliations and preparation of management reports.
• Contribute to process‑improvement initiatives and assist with finance system maintenance.

Required profile

• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• AAT Level 3 (or higher) completed or currently studying.
• Experience processing high volumes of financial transactions and performing reconciliations.
• Understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping principles.
• Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
