Accounts Director – Lead Teams & Drive Business Development

About the role

The Accounts Director will lead the firm’s accounts team, shape business development and ensure top‑class client service for a portfolio of owner‑managed businesses and SMEs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Accounts team, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Manage a portfolio of key clients across various sectors.
• Act as a trusted adviser to business owners and senior stakeholders.
• Drive business development activities and generate new fee opportunities.
• Build and maintain a strong network of professional contacts and referral sources.
• Identify opportunities to expand services within existing client relationships.
• Review statutory accounts, management accounts and advisory work.
• Ensure compliance with accounting and regulatory standards.
• Support strategic initiatives and contribute to firm growth.
• Coach, mentor and develop managers and senior team members.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualification (or equivalent).
• Significant experience within an accountancy practice.
• Proven track record of winning new business and revenue growth.
• Strong leadership experience with ability to motivate and develop teams.
• Excellent networking, relationship‑building and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and strategic mindset.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge.
• Confidence to influence clients, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
