Application Support Engineer – 2nd Line (Hybrid, Inside IR35)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to join a boutique financial services organisation on a hybrid, Inside IR35 contract. You will provide 2nd line support for bespoke Windows‑based applications, ensuring smooth operation for critical business processes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 2nd line application support for bespoke Windows applications.
• Investigate and resolve incidents using SQL, PowerShell and SFTP tools.
• Collaborate with monitoring and APM tools to proactively identify issues.
• Follow ITIL processes for incident, problem and change management.
• Assist with integration components such as ESB and payment systems where required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in application support within the financial services sector.
• Strong knowledge of Windows environments and related troubleshooting techniques.
• Hands‑on experience with SQL, PowerShell scripting and secure file transfer (SFTP).
• Familiarity with ITIL best practices.
• Exposure to monitoring/APM tools and ESB/payment integrations is desirable.
