Apprentice Engineer – Overhead Crane Service Technician

About the role

Join Konecranes as an Apprentice Engineer and learn to maintain, repair, service and upgrade overhead gantry cranes. This full‑time apprenticeship combines college study with on‑the‑job training at our Banbury centre, giving you a solid foundation for a career as a Service Technician.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance and repair of large overhead cranes.
• Support planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance activities.
• Learn to work with electrical and mechanical plant equipment such as motors, switchgear, pumps and gearboxes.
• Follow health, safety and environmental regulations on all tasks.
• Participate in on‑site service calls and upgrades under supervision.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 GCSEs (grade 4/C or above) including Maths, English and a Science.
• At least 17 years old on 24 August 2026.
• Ability to work at heights and climb ladders.
• Willingness to travel up to an hour to a designated college and live within 30 miles of the branch.
• Pass a manual driving test by the end of the first apprenticeship year.
• Basic IT skills.

Required skills

• Understanding of motors, switchgear, cables, conductors, pumps, valves, gearboxes and pipework.
• Knowledge of electromechanical power and control systems.
• Familiarity with electrical theories and principles.
• Awareness of health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures.
