Architect – Gym Design & Build

About the role

Urban Gym Group is expanding rapidly across the UK and needs an in‑house Architect to lead the design and delivery of new gyms and refurbishments. You will own design quality and planning delivery for a growing UK portfolio while collaborating with a Netherlands‑based design team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design development for all UK new‑build and refurbishment projects, from concept through planning consent to technical delivery.
• Prepare and manage planning applications, liaise with local authorities and coordinate specialist consultants.
• Own and evolve UK design standards for GymBox and TrainMore to ensure a consistent member experience.
• Appoint and manage external architects and design consultants, overseeing briefs, fees and quality.
• Visit sites regularly to check design quality, resolve issues and keep programmes on track.
• Act as the link between design and construction teams, ensuring fast information flow and query resolution.
• Contribute to due‑diligence on new sites, provide architectural input to board papers and cost plans, and align standards with the international portfolio.

Required profile

• Part II or Part III qualified architect (ARB registration preferred).
• Proven experience delivering new‑build and refurbishment projects in the UK.
• Strong knowledge of UK planning processes, Building Regulations and CDM requirements.
• Confidence with AutoCAD and/or Revit and strong technical drawing skills.
• Experience managing or coordinating consultants and external architect teams.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects at different stages.
• Clear communicator, comfortable presenting to contractors or board members.
• Self‑motivated, able to work autonomously and collaborate with international colleagues.
• Right to work in the UK.

What we offer

• Salary £50,000 – £60,000 per annum.
• Full‑time permanent contract (40 hours per week).
• On‑site work at our London head office or clubs, minimum four days per week.
