Aspiring Child Counsellor – Learning Support Assistant

About the role
This position offers recent graduates the chance to gain hands‑on experience supporting 11‑16‑year‑old pupils with autism and additional social, emotional and mental health needs in a special school setting.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the class teacher in delivering the learning programme.
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with learning, physical, sensory or behavioural challenges.
- Build trusted relationships with pupils, fostering a safe and empowering environment.
- Follow and implement safeguarding policies within the classroom.
- Attend staff meetings and complete required CPD activities.
Required profile
- GCSE grade 4/C or above in English and Maths.
- Graduated in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology or a related social‑science discipline (preferred but not mandatory).
- Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
- Willingness to commute to Dorking.
Required skills
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Compassionate, caring approach with strong listening skills.
What we offer
- On‑site training, support and continuous professional development.
- Day rate of £93‑£105 (PAYE), Monday‑Friday 08:30‑15:30, term‑time only.
- Opportunity to develop practical experience with SEN students before progressing in the sector.
