Assistant Financial Controller

About the role

The Assistant Financial Controller reports to the Financial Controller and supports financial reporting, risk management, and audit activities within a global engineering and manufacturing business. This role helps maintain a strong control environment and ensures compliance with regulatory and tax requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of accurate monthly management accounts, financial reporting and analysis.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, pre‑payments, reconciliations and balance‑sheet reviews.
• Prepare and review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts and financial plans, providing analysis of key variances.
• Produce regular financial reports and management information for senior stakeholders, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities.
• Assist with statutory accounts, audit requirements and other external reporting.
• Work with finance and non‑finance stakeholders to resolve accounting queries and improve processes.
• Support internal controls, financial governance and risk mitigation initiatives.
• Assist with cash‑flow management, working‑capital analysis and monitoring of key financial metrics.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement projects, including process automation and standardisation.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• A CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in the manufacturing sector is an advantage.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
