Assistant Solicitor – Crime & Regulatory (Health & Safety, Motor)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Lawyer / Solicitor to join our specialist Crime & Regulatory team in Leeds. Working closely with Lead Lawyer David Chant, you will handle complex health & safety and serious motor matters from the initial incident through to resolution, providing high‑quality legal advice and building trusted client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse prosecution evidence and assess implications for clients.
• Draft witness statements, defence case statements and sentencing mitigation bundles.
• Collate, organise and summarise case materials for senior lawyers.
• Liaise with courts, coroners, regulators (HSE, CQC, Police) and external experts.
• Attend interviews under caution, inquests and trials alongside counsel.
• Conduct legal and regulatory research, including HSE guidelines.
• Review medical records, post‑mortem reports, transcripts and CCTV evidence.
• Coordinate meetings, site visits and expert appointments.
• Provide sensitive support to clients in high‑pressure situations.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor (NQ) with up to 4 years PQE in Health & Safety, Regulatory, Inquests, Traffic Commissioner or Serious Motor law.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Detail‑focused and confident using case management systems.
• Strong communicator able to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
• Calm, resilient and professional under pressure.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive, flexible approach.
• Empathetic when dealing with clients facing difficult circumstances.
