Audit Responsible Individual (RI) – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

Our client, a well‑established independent firm of Chartered Accountants in Witney, is seeking an experienced Audit Responsible Individual (RI) to lead a significant audit portfolio and join the senior leadership team. This permanent, hybrid role offers the chance to shape audit quality, drive business growth and mentor a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Own a substantial portfolio of audit clients as the primary relationship partner.
• Deliver high‑quality audit services in line with UK auditing standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead the audit quality agenda, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.
• Review and enhance audit methodologies, systems and internal processes.
• Mentor, coach and develop audit team members, fostering a collaborative culture.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to define the strategic direction of the audit department.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to expand audit services and strengthen market presence.
• Provide commercially focused advice to clients, supporting their broader business objectives.
• Work cross‑functionally with tax, accounts and advisory teams on integrated service opportunities.

Required profile

• ICAEW or ACCA qualified with current Responsible Individual (RI) status.
• Extensive experience leading statutory audits within a UK accountancy practice.
• Proven track record managing a large audit portfolio.
• Strong leadership experience, including team management, mentoring and development.
• Excellent technical knowledge of UK audit standards and regulations.
