British Sign Language Communication Support Worker

About the role

Reed Further Education is seeking experienced British Sign Language (BSL) Communication Support Workers to assist profoundly deaf students in further education settings across South East England. This role enables learners to fully access their courses, develop confidence, and achieve their academic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide BSL communication support for deaf students in classrooms, workshops and tutorials.
• Facilitate clear interaction between students, tutors and peers using British Sign Language.
• Assist learners in accessing study materials and participating fully in lessons.
• Promote independence, confidence and inclusion within the learning environment.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and support teams to meet individual learner needs.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 3 BSL qualification (or higher).
• Previous experience supporting deaf learners or individuals with hearing impairments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
• Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the United Kingdom.
