Building Control Surveyor

About the role

The successful Building Control Surveyor will report to the Principal Surveyor and ensure statutory compliance with the Building Regulations across a range of projects in Somerset. You will work independently, managing your own workload while supporting major enforcement cases and new business development.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out plans examination, on‑site inspections and control of demolitions and dangerous structures in line with the Building Act 1984.
• Apply Class 2 (minimum) requirements of the Building Safety Act to residential, industrial, retail, educational and healthcare projects.
• Represent the organisation in formal enforcement cases and statutory consultations.
• Maintain KPI standards set by the Building Safety Regulator and internal management.
• Support marketing activities and build relationships with service users and partner organisations.

Required profile

• Degree, HNC or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline.
• Membership of a professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB.
• Class 2 registration (or achievable before April 2024).
• Minimum 5 years of Building Control experience in a local authority or private firm.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of the Building Regulations.
• Familiarity with the Building Act 1984.
• Understanding of the Building Safety Act.
• Ability to conduct plan examinations and on‑site inspections.
