Caretaker / Handyperson – Business Support

About the role

The Caretaker/Handyperson provides maintenance, portering and security services for the Gorbals Health & Care Centre, part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This permanent, part‑time position (14.5 hours per week) ensures the building environment remains safe, clean and functional.

Key responsibilities

• Secure the premises by locking and unlocking buildings as required.
• Report unauthorised access, loss or damage to the Administrator promptly.
• Maintain entrance grounds, building interiors and external areas in a clean, hazard‑free condition.
• Carry out minor maintenance tasks, repairs and new work under supervision.
• Liaise with internal departments, external contractors and users of the facilities.
• Assist with building security duties, including monitoring and incident reporting.

Required profile

• No formal qualifications required; comprehensive on‑the‑job training will be provided.
• Competent in performing minor works and basic maintenance.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team, follow protocols and prioritise workload.
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing demands.

Required skills

• Experience of minor maintenance, caretaking or portering (desirable).
• Keyboard skills and data‑entry experience.
